The Run UK Is It Worth Going?

Being the FIRST event I’ve been to this year, I figured it had to be worth a write up. Not only that, but I was looking at it with completely fresh eyes as I’d never been to a Run UK event before. This was my first experience with these hosts.

Right off the bat I’ll say this. It was an exclusive event. You couldn’t just turn up for something to do and stand around as a spectator. It was ticket only and honestly, I absolutely loved that.

Why?

1) Because you’re guaranteed a good view without fighting your way through hundreds of people.
2) There was one food van and you never had to wait more than about three minutes to get served.
3) Everyone there had made the effort to buy a ticket, which meant they actually wanted to be there. It wasn’t packed with people who’d just wandered in because they were bored on a Sunday.

Even the cost of racing played its part. The entry price naturally keeps the standard of cars interesting. Let’s be honest, most people aren’t paying for a race ticket just to launch a 1.6 Fiesta down the strip. Well, apart from that one bloke who’s determined to shock everyone.

What To Expect

First things first paying for access what's the damage? These are private events, usually requiring booking in advance by messaging them on Instagram.

Driver Ticket: £100.
Passenger Ticket: £20

After arriving and getting your car ready for its first run down the strip, the first thing on the agenda was the Drivers Briefing. I wasn’t sure how they were going to handle it, but the last thing I expected was for the host to climb onto the roof of his classic Ford and shout it out to everyone.

That’s when I realised just how raw this event really was. No big stage, no over the top announcements, no dramatic build up. Just a bloke standing on his car making sure everyone knew the rules before sending us out to do what we all came for... Yet again i loved it.

What's The Standard Of Cars Attending!

So what sort of audience does this event attract?

If I’m being completely honest, it was very heavily German w/ DSG based. Now, as this was my first time at a Run UK event, I can’t say for certain if that’s the norm, but on this occasion I’d confidently say it was about 90 percent German metal. Golf Rs everywhere, BMW M140is in serious numbers, and plenty of well sorted Audi builds thrown into the mix.

Now, here at the Hikari Project, that isn’t exactly our usual flavour. You all know where our loyalty sits. But "don’t let that distract you from the fact that" there were some seriously impressive machines out there including a Porsche GT3 RS, A McLaren 570s, R33 Nissan Skyline GTR and RS6s with wide bodies and LOTS of power. Respect where it’s due.

And of course, we weren’t about to let the German camp have it all their own way. We were backing our Japanese brothers. A friend of ours brought along his 500 plus brake horsepower Subaru STI and that thing was an absolute weapon. Literally beating most things off the line without issues... Ill drop his handle below.

Our Car Picks Of The Day...

Now before i get to what was our personal favourites of the day i want to give a respectful nod to the BMW X3s out there today my god they was fast... credit where its due they caught me off guard w/ another honourable mention the specific blue m3.

First up... This THING.

Don't even ask us about it because we have no idea the only information i have on this absolute machine is its claimed to be 900BHP and absolutely destroyed the GT3RS next to it...

and of course our other pick out there today was this...

Great to see a skyline out there destroying its opponents.

So our summary?

It was in our eyes a very successful event, the hosts was comfortable out there it can be seen that this isn't there first rodeo the main host driving his classic ford like it should be driven to the point of needing a new clutch! The food was good and hit the spot, the atmosphere was great and genuine with car enthusiasts and i would HIGHLY recommend going to one of these events and you can do so by messaging the Instagram page below.

Thanks to all the ladies and gents that make this event possible.
See you at the next one!
